Winter is now upon us, or as Designer Dad calls it - the Wynter of My Discontent....

Discontent at what? I laugh off, back at him, now what can that be at? The new mining tax?

Maybe its just the cold. I do remember living in London and dreaming of hot days back home. But what a trade off.

In London, design was everything to me, it took up every waking thought, I scoured local free magazines and papers for the latest in design, exhibitions, showrooms, products, buildings, museums, shops and more. And boy did we have a great time and an active weekend, gridskipping from area to area to see every new design thing that popped up, whether at Camden Markets or Hoxley. 100% Design was the yearly highlight, check it out, they were at the cutting edge of euro-brit design.

I really wish Brisbane if not Australia could do what the Londoness do so well, but we just don't have the critical mass (people numbers) to achieve that. Not that i'm complaining about our sparsely populated country. I quite like it like this, much more than London's crowded city streets, I guess you can't have your right royal cake and eat it too.

But this Wynter's Discontent is a call to action to all you creatives out there, when we are all hibernating inside, as we're too cold for the beach, too poor to go shopping and too bored to go the GOMA...get busy! get talking, get creative and hold an exhibition, of something....anything.....let your inner artist free, make something simple but interesting, network like crazy, find someone who will let you exhibit for free -  in a disused shed, a rooftop - it can be anywhere really, and finally I and many others will have something new and interesting to do each Brisbane winter. I'm looking forward to it!
